DJ Mag: ‘Free therapeutic course for dance music professionals launches’

Sustained pressure over time can take a toll, no matter how experienced you are. Stress, and the ways you cope with it, often catches up with you eventually.

When Maria May (a leading Creative Artists Agency agent who has worked with the likes of David Guetta, Sara Landry and Robin Schulz) approached us offering to support MITC, Laura Newton and I put our heads together to think about where the gaps are in available support and came up with the concept behind this programme.

It is a preventative model of support, created specifically for music executives (not artists this time!), working in electronic music. It’s a six-month, fully funded pilot (thanks to Maria), designed not just to reduce burnout, but to help people better understand their experiences and responses, develop more effective ways of coping with stress, and sustain their performance over time whilst working in a high pressure environment.

We’ve combined performance psychology, psychotherapy, meditation and psychoeducation. And, all the practitioners work in electronic music, so they get what it's like and share a frame of reference with the clients.
